Knitology 101 ongoing instructor: Linda

Students will learn a variety of cast-ons, how to knit, purl, slip stitch, knit two stitches together (K2tog), slip-slip knit (SSK), ribbing, how to check gauge, and learn the most common abbreviations used in knitting. This class is open to all ages.

The Graduate Course is offered to students that have completed Knitology 101. Now that you know all the basic knitting techniques, this course will offer you time to knit your favorite projects with the guidance of an instructor for any problems or questions that will arise. You will also have the opportunity to learn more advanced techniques, such as Fair Isle, intarsia, magic loop, entrelac, and more.

Are you a crocheter looking to expand your knowledge? Are you new to crochet? This class is for anyone that is interested in learning or expanding on their skill set.
Experienced crocheters are welcome to bring their current project.
Sign up at any time! This class has rolling admission; you can join in on any Friday and pay for any four-week block. Feel free to skip dates, too, as your scheduling requires.

If you’ve always wanted to learn crochet, this is the class for you! Diana will teach you the skills needed to make just about anything crocheted. You will learn to chain, single crochet, half double, double and treble stitches, as well as how to increase and decrease.
Tunisian Crochet instructor: Diana

Tunisian crochet differs from traditional crochet, because each row is a two-step process. This class will teach you the basics and beyond. Students will learn knit stitch, simple stitch, purl stitch and more.

Do you loathe purling? Do you want to work on projects like entrelac, but hate flipping your work around? Knitting backwards is the answer to your prayers. Whether you knit traditionally (onto your right needle), or onto your left, you will learn to knit backwards, and stop flipping your work around.

Description: If you’ve always wanted to learn to spin on a wheel, but are afraid to jump down the rabbit hole and make the investment, this is the class for you. Over three weeks we’ll cover wheel mechanics, selecting fiber, drafting, spinning singles, plying, and how to wash, thwack, and set your yarn. Students will leave with their very first handspun yarn and a desire to keep on spinning!
Materials Needed: All materials will be provided by the shop---the class cost includes a $30 wheel rental fee that can be applied toward the purchase of a wheel at the end of the class. Please note that a discount will be provided if you already own a wheel and would just like a refresher course.

Short Rows Workshop instructor: Jesh

If you’ve been living in fear of the magical short row, worry no more! We’ll go through four different kinds, including the basic wrap and turn, the yarn over wrap, the shadow wrap, and my personal favorite, the wrap and lift. We’ll talk about the best application of these techniques (they’re for more than just socks!) and class participants will leave with an adorable baby hat nearly completed.
Supplies: A printed copy of the Aviatrix hat pattern, available on Ravelry for free, plus appropriate yarn and needles as called for in the pattern.
Homework: Please cast on and knit the hat ribbing as outlined in the pattern to save class time! The rest of the class will move on without you if you need to finish your homework in class.

Have you always been interested in weaving, but don’t have the space for a floor loom? Tabletop Cricket looms are the answer. They have a small footprint, are portable, and are easy to use. Join us to learn how to warp a loom and start weaving a scarf! We will discuss warp, weft, sett, dent reeds and more.
Note: if you already own a rigid heddle loom, the class price is $60.00.
Christmas Stockings instructor: Jesh

Get ready for the holiday season (yes, already) and learn colorwork and basic sock construction all in one go! Worsted weight yarn and a big gauge make these stockings a quick knit. Students will learn two-color stranded knitting, as well as top down sock construction, duplicate stitch, intarsia, and other techniques. A kit with yarn and pattern is included in the class price and can be pre-ordered at class sign-up (please allow at least one week for delivery) or choose from our in-stock kits.
Skills needed: Knitting in the round, purling, decreasing, picking up stitches.
Materials needed: US8 needles (DPNs or your preferred length for magic loop, or two circs)
Colorwork 101 instructor: Linda

Description: Fair Isle, Intarsia and Duplicate Stitch are the 3 techniques we will be covering in this class.
Fair Isle is a traditional knitting technique originating in Scotland, where you use 2 colors of yarn in the same row. Intarsia is another color work technique, which uses blocks of color to make designs. Duplicate Stitch enables you to change the color of a stitch that has already been knitted. It is similar to embroidery. Students will learn about: floats, stranded knitting, bobbins and much more.
Materials needed: Worsted weight and size 8 needles.
Flawless Finishing #2, Mattress Stitch Workshop instructor: Jesh

Experience Level: Intermediate
Description: All mattress stitch, all the time! So many knitters hate seaming and finishing their garments, or complain that it comes out sloppy and unpolished no matter what they try. Fortunately, there are some tricks and guidelines for sewing side, shoulder, and set-in sleeve seams that make them come together like magic. This two hour hands-on intensive workshop will walk you through these techniques and have you on your way to a flawlessly assembled garment. We’ll also talk about steps to take to make seaming easier, plus blocking basics. Extra time will be available at the end of class for those who want to continue practicing and enjoying the delights of mattress stitch.
Materials Needed: A yarn needle, some smooth worsted weight yarn, split ring or locking stitch markers, and the four swatches indicated below. Also, if you have it, we can work on an already knitted garment that needs assembly. You may also wish to bring a notebook and pen for taking notes.
Homework: Please knit four swatches in worsted weight, 24 sts wide and 30 rows tall.

Description: Learn this neat no-seam modular technique by working up a quick scarf.
